Good to know

Is the Glacier Express running?

It runs every day except its annual break from mid October to early December. In 2026 the break runs from 11 October to 4 December, and daily trains start again on Saturday 5 December. A seat reservation is required.

Can you still ride the Trans-Siberian?

The Rossiya still runs from Moscow to Vladivostok, in about 7 days, for travel within Russia. The UK Foreign Office advises against all travel to Russia and the US State Department rates Russia Level 4: Do Not Travel. We show the route and the advice, with no booking link.

Does the Orient Express still leave from London?

No. Since 2024, London passengers take the Eurostar to Paris and board the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express there. It runs about once a week from March to December, overnight from Paris to Venice.

Is there still a train from Moscow to Beijing?

Not as one train: the Moscow to Beijing train via Ulaanbaatar has been suspended since February 2020. Beijing to Ulaanbaatar runs once a week again (trains K23 and K24, about 31 hours).

Which famous train journeys run all year?

The Bernina Express, the Flåm Railway, the West Highland Line, the TranzAlpine, the trains to Machu Picchu, the Reunification Express and the California Zephyr run all year. So do The Canadian (twice a week) and the Indian Pacific (once a week).

How do I get to the start by train?

Pick your city in the planner above. It lists every famous journey whose start, or a stop on its route, has a direct train from your city, with the fastest time and the trains a day, from pickthetrain.com.
